Broadland

The world famous Broads, among other fine attractions, make tourism a key part of the Broadland economy.

Broadland works with all relevant partners to protect and enhance the environment, to promote economic prosperity and meet the varied needs of Broadland’s communities.

The Broads are Britain's largest protected wetland. The beautiful, wild expanse of 200km of lock-free navigable rivers, shallow lakes, woodland, fens and grazing marshes, is home to some of the rarest plants and wildlife in the UK to the Swallowtail butterfly to the reclusive bittern.

Broadland district will be home to the Rackheath Eco-Community, one of four in the UK.  Eco-Communities will be low carbon developments, designed to the highest environmental standards and acting as best practice examples for future design and construction. They will feature:

  • Renewable on-site energy production capable of supplying heat and power to every home
  • User-friendly public transport systems, encouraging people to use trains, buses, cycles and walkways
  • Efficient recycling and waste management
  • High quality amenities, including shops, schools and sports facilities
  • A network of green open spaces, parks and gardens

Broadland Council Training Services (BCTS) scheme is offering small to medium sized businesses in the Broadland area grants of £2,000 to help support an apprentice in business administration; customer service; retail; equestrian; warehousing and storage; local government; team leading and management.
