Re-letting the Great Anglia franchise
It was announced in June 2010 that the Great Anglia franchise process would be delayed to allow the Department for Transport to consult on the future of rail franchising policy. It was anticipated that this consultation process will provide industry partners with the opportunity to comment on the Government’s approach to rail franchising and whether bidders for longer franchises would be able to offer investment in improvements to trains and services.
A recent announcement stated that the short-term management contract would run from February 2012 for 18 months with an option to extend for a year, with the longer franchise starting in the summer of 2013 lasting 15 years.
Norwich in Ninety will continue to lobby for improvements on the line including:
· Cleanliness and comfort
Retainment of on board facilities such as Wi-Fi
· Measures introduced to reduce engineering disruption · Improvements to rural lines Norwich in Ninety will also look to ensure those successful in the franchise process continue to engage and communicate with the campaign.
